Fianema is nowadays a small rural town with an important historical past, principally during the Middle Ages. Some archaeological recoveries give also evidence that the ancient Romans had populated the place. The name Fianema, in fact, derives from the word “flaminia”, which in Latin indicates the art of fusing metals like the bronze, which was used by the Romans to mint coins. This trade was never ceased to be practised during the centuries.
It is proved in a fresco of the “ Beata Vergine Maria” church, where St. Egidio appears with the unusual clothing of a smith.
The medieval past of Fianema is strictly connected to the noble houses of Muffoni and Bovio. It is important to quote them, because the building of the to-day’s ANTICO SPLENDORE was once a nunnery during the XVII century, and become then the Bovio’s abode. During the World War I it was transformed into a military hospital, and when the lord Bovio decided to move to Venice it was sold. For a period, the building was neglected and consequently it deteriorated.
Today, however, we are proud to re-propose you the redecorated ANTICO SPLENDORE. Now it looks as good as new but maintains the charm of the past, and it is ready to relive with you in the present. |
